Frequently Asked Questions

What meta tags does this tool preview?

It fetches the page and renders three previews: a Google search result (title, URL, meta description), a Twitter/X Card (twitter:title, twitter:description, twitter:image), and an Open Graph share card (og:title, og:description, og:image) as seen when sharing on Facebook, LinkedIn, or Slack.

What is the Open Graph protocol?

The Open Graph protocol defines <meta property="og:..."> tags that social platforms read to generate rich link previews. Key tags: og:title, og:description, og:image (minimum 1200×630 px recommended), and og:url. Without these, platforms fall back to page title and a random image, often with poor results.

Why doesn't my updated meta tag appear on social media?

Social platforms aggressively cache link previews. After updating meta tags, clear each platform's cache: Facebook Sharing Debugger, Twitter/X Card Validator, LinkedIn Post Inspector. Without manual clearing, caches typically expire after 7–30 days.

What is the ideal meta description length?

Google displays up to ~155–160 characters before truncating with '…'. Write the most important information first. Descriptions are not a direct ranking factor but influence click-through rate — a compelling, accurate description drives more clicks from search results.
